How to Fix Robot Vacuum Mapping Problems

Most mapping problems come from the robot starting a run away from its dock, or from the dock being moved. Always start cleans from the dock, keep the dock against a wall with 50 cm of clear space each side, and after any furniture change run one "mapping only" pass before editing rooms. If the map is already fragmented, delete it and rebuild rather than patching.

A robot localises itself by matching what its LiDAR or camera sees against the stored map. Change the starting point, the dock position or enough furniture, and the match fails: the robot either draws a second partial map or "drifts" — cleaning offset from the real rooms.
